Shakespear Mfanufikile Nkosi (born 28 November 1991), professionally known as Shakespear Nkosi, is a 2x Gold Certified (RISA), 11-time award-winning record producer, sound engineer, DJ, and film director from Tembisa, Johannesburg, South Africa. Shakespear’s passion for music emerged early, sparked by his involvement in the school choir during primary school. At age 19, while studying architecture, he built his first music studio — now one of the most prominent production spaces in the region. Inspired by real-life events, Shakespear channels emotional narratives through his production techniques and organic approach. His sound blends intricate layering with bold sonic storytelling, crafting dynamic compositions that invite introspection. His production credits include major artists such as K.O, Kwesta, Touchline, Gigi Lamayne, and Red Button. Beyond music, he’s created scores for platforms like Netflix, M-Net, DStv, and Rhythm City. He’s also collaborated with international organizations like Global Citizen and ONE.org as a live stage and front-of-house assistant sound engineer. In 2021, Shakespear made his DJ debut with the hit single “Amasi”, which garnered over 700,000 streams. His deluxe EP, Thoughts Become Things, has reached 900,000 streams across all platforms, and he’s performed on 209 stages across South Africa, Lesotho & Swaziland.
